Besides being a successful actress Carole was also an accomplished author. She wrote many magazine articles about her experiences during World War 2 and she wrote the book Four Jills In A Jeep (which was later made into a movie). In 1945 she was asked to write a forward for the book Winnie the WAC. Winnie was a popular World War 2 comic strip character created by Cpl. Vic Herman. The book sold more than 85,000 copies. There were rumors that Carole was going to play Winnie in a movie but it was never made. In 2002 Winnie The WAC was reprinted along with Carole's original forward.
